New York’s Ever Changing Cultural Landscape

New York’s Ever Changing Cultural Landscape

We started to up the Sunset Park Estate Sale for this coming weekend, 8/25 & 8/26. We cleaned, inventoried and displayed all items in our usual professional manner.

The nice gentleman who owned this 6 bedroom 2 family home decided it was time for a change and headed south. He left everything behind for estate liquidation. If you’ve looked at the pictures and videos you’ve seen the amazing contents of this well kept Norwegian home. Not to mention what we’ve pulled out of the basement and closets. We leave no stone unturned when setting up all of our estate and tag sales.

I was really surprised to see the landscape of the neighborhood had changed dramatically in the past few years. That’s the wonderful thing about this city we live in; our population is amazingly diverse yet we all live together in relative harmony. You can experience dozens of different cultures in one day just by walking neighborhood to neighborhood.

I did a little research and found some interesting things about this wonderful unique neighborhood past and present.

Sunset Park grew rapidly, largely as a result of Irish, Polish, Finnish and Norwegian immigrant families moving to the area in the 19^th century. In the early 1980s, Sunset Park's population was made up of Norwegian Americans, who began leaving the neighborhood in the 1970s and early 1980s.

 

The 2nd Wave

 

Its rebirth came in the form of "Brooklyn's Little Latin America"

With a wave of immigration from Puerto Rico and other Latin American countries, by 1990, Hispanics comprised 50% of Sunset Park's population. They were successful in rehabilitating property values and developing a thriving community.

 

The Current Wave

Brooklyn’s Chinatown/Emerging Fuzhou Town

Since the 1980s, Brooklyn Chinatown, located along 8th Avenue from 42nd to 68th Street, has attracted many Chinese immigrants. Eighth Avenue is lined with Chinese businesses, including grocery stores, restaurants, Buddhist temples, video stores, bakeries, and community organizations, and even Hong Kong Supermarket.

Am I writing the first review? I'm honored! These guys seriously saved my life. I don't know what I would have done without them. Anyone in the NYC area considering an estate sale - use Lucky Rabbit! 

While I was cleaning out my parents' apartment, I kept putting off figuring out the whole estate sale portion of it. The whole idea made me uncomfortable, and I was worried about the logistics. I fe

el so lucky that I ended up calling Paul and Tom at Lucky Rabbit...

They can identify seemingly any item, and are normal, cool dudes who run the sale like true professionals. They advertised well and attracted so many people to the sale. We made so much more money than I would have ever imagined, and things I would have thrown out ended up selling. In fact I guarantee before I talked to them I probably threw out at least $1000 worth of stuff that I thought was junk!

Their clean out services are better - and cheaper - than other services I looked into. And those are services that exclusively do clean out.

This is the first Yelp review I've ever written - that is how much I recommend Lucky Rabbit!!! They will make a bad situation much more bearable.

Paul and Tom are great! They are very professional and also very kind and sensitive to the fact that estate sales can be a difficult time for those who have lost loved ones. They really know their stuff and do a great job researching everything so that you don't get ripped off. And they can also arrange to donate or haul out any items that do not sell that you do not want. They work on commission so you don't pay anything up front - they just take a % of the total sales. Overall, these guys are great and made the whole process incredibly easy!

I’d like to thank everyone who patronized this incredible sale, especially those friends who are involved in the estate and tag sale industry.It was great to see you all again. 

I also have to thank my staff for all the hard work they put into making this two day sale a great success. They all preformed marvelously under the circumstances. 

This was not your normal tag sale by any means. This was a 5 bedroom Great Neck home stuffed into 3 storage rooms. We had to add 5 additional rooms to set it up properly. The task was daunting at first, but we persevered and got the job done. Like it says on our web site: “We are doers and our word means everything to us”

We sold 1000’s of items and had 100’s of customers shop over the two days. As always we made many new friends and we were happy to see that some old ones traveled so far to visit us. One gentleman drove all the way from Philadelphia. Happily he was able to purchase the item the item he came for.

A few of my competitors were offered this sale but they turned it down. Again I use the word “daunting” Yes it was a lot of hard work but there was an abundance of quality antiques and collectibles buried in the 100’s of boxes. The bottom line: Lucky Rabbit Estate Sales is not afraid of hard work! 

One competitor did offer to take the sale. However the client researched the company and the owners name only to discover that they were not reputable. If you read my blog regularly you know I advise you to Google the company name and the principal owners. (Google us) You wouldn't want to hire a convicted criminal to sell your valuables would you? In addition I also recommend visiting any company’s sales before hiring them.

Last but not least I need to thank the wonderful staff at Storage America. They were very helpful and understanding of the client’s situation. We did have bump or two in the road but we were able to work out all problems as they presented themselves.
