Using Estate Sales to Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse

Using Estate Sales to Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse

When a relative dies, an unavoidable part of the grieving process is figuring out how to dispose of their belongings. An estate sale is not only a smart way to sort through items left behind in an inheritance, but is also the perfect opportunity to practice environmental awareness and incorporate the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle.
Lucky Rabbit Estate Sales co-owner, Paul J. Dunn, was recently featured in the New York Times after he consulted with an estate sale that attracted about 300 people. One reason for the company’s success with estate sales is its approach to utilize a social media marketing strategy that is second to none among its competitors. Dunn’s advice to families going through this difficult process is to consult with a professional before making a decision about how to dispose of the deceased’s possessions. Here’s how an estate sale can help you to help the environment.

Reduce
An estate sale is a great way to reduce clutter and find new homes for items that you either have no use for or don’t have space in your home to accommodate. You could earn cash from selling these items to a collectors or curious buyers who are looking for unique or rare pieces to add to their personal collection.

Recycle
Recycling is another way to breathe new life into old possessions. Many estate sale buyers are looking for collectibles and rare memorabilia. However, large items like furniture are also a great find that can easily be recycled by adding a new finish or converting it for a different purpose.

Reuse
With a little imagination, many items found at estate sales can be repurposed and reused. For example, paint and craft supplies can turn old jars into eye-catching decorative pieces. Many people are also looking for vintage clothing and estate sales can offer up some really great finds.
Whether for sentimental value or just to grow their collections, many people are attracted to estate sales for the sheer diversity of items available. Rather than throwing the possessions into the trash, why not consult with an estate sale professional to see the value that lies in them.
